Now for my second favorite topic (after jewelry): vacation! I can't wait to go on a honeymoon, but my fiancé's work schedule won't allow for us to take one until next spring. I think after the stress of the wedding planning and, of course, with all the love we’ll be feeling we will want to have a little getaway, so after the wedding we’re going to take a mini moon.
Starved Rock always is a wonderful choice for families or couples to getaway for a weekend. Marketing director Kathy Casstevens recommends their “Love Starved Rock” package for couples looking for romance. The $175 package includes room for two, a $40 voucher for dinner in the dining room and a $15 voucher for breakfast the next morning. Best of all, they’ll deliver you a bottle of wine and two souvenir wine glasses.
Personally, Starved Rock has always been a favorite place in the Illinois Valley for some romancing. If for some reason you’ve never been theres more than 13 miles of hiking trails and loads of activities year round. The lodge itself is a lovely place to just hang out by the fireplace or on the patio and look into each other’s eyes (or whatever it is people do on honeymoons).
If you’re in the mood for more vino the August Hill Winery tasting room is nearby in Utica. You can sample a variety of their wines with their signature tasting experience. My favorites are the Berlyn, the Chardonel and all of their bubblies. When it’s nice out they also have live music on the patio.
Now I kind of can’t wait for the wedding to happen so I can enjoy relaxing and sipping wine on a mini moon.
