Both my fiancé and I survived our first round of bachelor/ette parties, although a little worse for the wear (mostly him, and a few of my best girlfriends). Also, yes, we are having more than one, meaning we’re going to do it all again this coming weekend. Oy. I’m already hydrating in anticipation. Because we live away from our hometowns, we’re each having one in our current home and one “at home”— Fort Lauderdale for him and Peru for me! My Peru one was this past weekend, and it was a blast.

I had kicked my parents out of their home for the weekend so college friends coming in from Chicago could stay over. I have to say, frantically cleaning up random glasses and bottles the next day brought back lovely memories of high school. Not that I ever had parties, but you know, if I did…

My lovely friends brought over adorable cookies from Tiers of Joy in La Salle. They were shaped like lingerie, and while usually fancy cookies taste like cardboard, these were DELICIOUS. We also had a variety of yummy cupcakes and of course some mimosas. After opening up my gifts (ranging from practical to racy to moderately obscene) we went to dinner at Brandy’s on Water Street, where my Chicago friends raved about the sweet potatoes. My friend Maegan made the waitress promise to tell the chef it was the best thing she had ever tasted, and she’d be thinking about it for the rest of her life.

After loading up the party bus things get a little hazy, but I remember dancing on the bus, stops at many fine drinking establishments in La Salle and Peru, more dancing, one friend taking over the microphone of a band, and lots of fun. Hey, you only do it once! Or in our case twice. Again, oy.
