Letters to the editor: Editorial cartoon makes mockery of Catholic Church

There is an old saying: “The more things change the more they stay the same” and I see the NewsTribune is playing its part in keeping the old saying alive. I am referring to the editorial cartoon in Saturday’s paper (Dec. 22) depicting Pope Benedict XVI standing up for the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church.
The mockery the cartoon makes of Catholic beliefs and morals is just another form of Catholic bashing that has become popular in our culture. No religion is mocked or discriminated against for its belief and teachings than the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church is being denied its rights under the First Amendment by the Obama administration (namely making Catholic schools, hospitals etc. pay for the cost of insurance for birth control which is against the belief and teachings of the church. Maybe it is time for all U.S. Catholics to stop taking this bashing, stand up, unite and get our rights and freedoms back that our founding fathers gave all of us, including Catholics, in the Constitution.
Shame on the NewsTribune for such a mockery of the Catholic religion only three days before Christmas, celebrating the birth of our redeemer and savior, Jesus Christ.

Mike Brown,
Utica

No sir, the truth is not ignorant. Not now, not ever.
The truth may hurt, a lot.
I did not, sir, mam, defame a whole class of men. I said a whole lot and I will stand by that.
The pratice of artificiale birth control is wide spread umong Catholics.
Catholis schools, La Salle hade four that were full, now one and it is near empty.
Catholic churches, La Salle had five, each with four or fife Sunday amsses and each was full. Now La Salle has two and one can find a seat anywhere one wants, empty.
Familys had ten to twelve children. Now, one or two and some none and only half even get married but call themselfes good catholics
Those are facts sir, mam

Metalworker:
Unfairly stereotyping a class of men with generalities and accusations is plain ignorant.

Mr Brown
You are right , I agree, I have been called Mackrel snapper, Jesus freak and a whole host of names that I will not print here. They do not bear repeating.
Where I disagree with you is in this, a lot, whole bunch, of what others say about us is earned and well deserved.
There are more self proclaimed catholics, small c, who are out ant out drunks than any other relg.
Go out , get drunk, chase women on Sat. night and go to Com. on Sun morning.
Beat the wife, gamble the check away and cuss up a blue streak at the kids, go to comm. on Sun.
Sir, we earned it.
We holler thet it is against our church teachings to pay foy birth cotrol, while running around with the neighbors wife and daughters and some times for some good old catholic men their own daughters after they beat the ctrap out of them.
Sir, I might sugest that if you want the jokes to stop, why clean up the catholic church first, be more tolerant of others.
Take the log out of your eye before you pick the splinter from some one elses.
I would suggest sir that every one practices birth control of some kind so providing others with the means is not a sin or wrong.
You just do not want to be the one paying for it while we pay for yours through your co. health plan.
You see sir, almost no one pays for their own.
We pay for others health plans trouhg the purchasing of goods and serviceses. That is a fact, we all do and so by your logis then I should be able to deduct a percentage of the fee because I do not agree with yor health plans providing you and yours with certian serviceses.
Right, is that not the way it should worrk, or do you just want to say, Ma there picking on me again.
