Open Forum: People of faith pray for us, our country

People of faith: To all who believe in religous freedom for our country, our schools, our families and most importantly for our church’s:
Now is the time to stand up and declare Our Lord Jesus Christ as our Creator and Savior of all. We as the faithful must be on our knee’s in deep repentant prayer. Prayer is the only way to save us and our country. There are many places to go and pray. Take advantage of our worship halls, our church’s and our chapels. If we do not pray things will not change for us and our country. It will only get worst.
Just look at what is going on in our world today! Please remember why we are here, to love one another as God has loved us and to Love and serve Him and to not offend Him. So people of prayer seek and you will find Him. He is there waiting for us, so let us get on our knee’s and pray in deep adoration to Our Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ms. Wrobleski starts by saying all who "believe in religious freedom" then follows with "declare our Lord Jesus Christ as our creator and savior". If this means people of the Jewish faith, Muslims, Buddists, Hindus, etc. should make this declaration, then there is no religious freedom. Which does she want, freedom or her declaration?

I couldn't agree with metalworker more. To me, prayer is not about asking God to intervene on our behalf. Prayer is about being mindful of the presence of God in all things, in friends, neighbors, strangers, criminals, animals, trees, buildings, rocks... and acting accordingly.

There are billions of people worldwide, of every faith, that are praying and acting for love and trust.
Attach your energies to those, and we will live in peace, harmony, generosity, kindness and calm.
We create our future, and are connected to all.

Wrobeski and Metalworker both make valid points. Prayer and service get results. As a person of Christian faith, I believe in an Almighty God that performs miracles, especially when believers go to Him in prayer. I also believe that God calls all of us to reach out and help others in need (WWJD, right?). When God and his people are aligned, great things happen. Check out the Bible's book of Acts, especially chapter 12, for supportive reading.

I'm encouraged by all of the recent local acts of kindness that I've witnessed. For example, I saw people giving monetarily and physically at the Mayflower collection at Hy-Vee. I was also at the Food Pantry on distribution day and saw local Christians, boy scouts, and others serving the needy. I recently volunteered at the PADS shelter and saw many people in action there are well.

We live in a very generous and giving community that God has blessed.

Why do people say that all that is needed is prayer? Why is that?
So, you see a child in tattered cloths, shoes with holes in the soles, snow on the ground with the temp. around 20 degrees digging in a garbage can for a bite to eat. and you say a prayer to God to help that child.
You go away, patting yourself on the back. Feeling good about yourself while ordering a hot meal at one of the local eateries. You asked God to help that child.
You did good, you prayed, how nice.
Did, I wonder, ever stop to think that perhaps that child prayed to God for help and God sent you and instead of helping you like most self professed Christians kicked the can down the road. You, in effect, said to God, hot me not my problem, your' or someone else's.
Do it, just do it, stop feeling good about just praying and do it as you may well be Gods answer to some one else's prayer.
The best. finest form of prayer is just seeing something that needs to be done and doing it.
