Letters to the Editor: Bible's view on Israel different than that of letter-writer

A recent Open Forum article stated that Israel should not be called a special nation and people. Funny thing about that, Scripture states differently. Seventeen times Jesus is referred to as “King of the Jews.”Four times, the “King of Israel.”
So evidently, God does consider Israel to be a separate and special nation as compared to all others. But the author is correct in saying that the Bible in Romans 3:24-30 says that God set forth Jesus as a propitiation for sins for all men. For since there is only one God, He is not the God of Israel only, but also of the Gentiles. Yet the apostle Paul warns Gentile believers not to be proud and boastful that they have been adopted as children into his kingdom, for God has not forsaken His natural children, Israel. Blindness has only come in part to Israel for there are many Jews who do follow Christ. That partial blindness will one day be removed near Christ’s second coming. Jesus will come to Israel in that day, as he came to Israel that first Christmas when this Scripture was fulfilled:
”But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are least among the princes of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth the One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of Old, From Everlasting.”
That little one you see laying in a manger wasn’t just another cute little baby. He was God taking on the form of human flesh. And although we all like to think of Christmas as being the season of peace, Jesus would later say “I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” That sword cutting a division. The Jews and Gentiles that believe in Him on one side being divided from those Jews and Gentiles that don’t believe in Him as their Savior.
Most people can handle Jesus as long as He stays a cute little baby and doesn’t say anything. But they can’t handle Jesus when He speaks and proclaims Himself to be the King of the Jews, the Savior of the World, the only One who can forgive sins. And when people understand who Jesus really is, there are two very different reactions. The Wisemen will come and bow before Him, and the proud King Herod types will hate him, mock him, and try to destroy Him. Which one are you?

You wrote: "Seventeen times Jesus is referred to as “King of the Jews.”Four times, the “King of Israel.”" Does this mean He is not the King of the Gentiles? Does this mean no matter what the Jewish nation does, they are His people - forever? The Bible makes it clear that all God's promises are based on condition of obedience. The Bible is also clear on the fact there their are spiritual Jews (Jews or Gentiles) - those who have "the faith of Abraham." This is not talking about nationality but spirituality. These are the Jews that Christ is "King" over.
