Letters to the editor: Balanced budget: Maybe we can do what Congress can't

This is more of an invitation than an opinion.
I have been looking at the federal budget and the deficit for a long time now, and I would like to get a Republican and a Democrat with calculators and a laptop to balance the budget. I looked at the numbers but I would like to get one of each of you plus someone from the media to publish what we have done. This is not a joke, I shook hands with one of our congressmen and asked him about it and he said it can’t be done.
You would think out of 535 congresspeople they could balance the budget for next year. Not 10 years, next year.
We had a balanced budget in the 1990s for as far as they could see, the budget was going to be balanced.
For whatever reason, it’s not balanced anymore. It can be done.
It’s a sad day when a congressman can’t do his only job and that is to submit a balanced budget.
You can contact me at (815) 223-6764 and we could set up a date to where all of us could talk about this and look over the numbers.
It will be interesting to see what could happen.

Larry Kohr,
Peru
