Free fishing rods for kids at weigh-in in Spring Valley
The public can attend the weigh-ins Saturday and Sunday, and the kids fishing clinic for free Saturday after the first-day weigh-in at Barto Landing, when an expected 50 or more two-person teams will compete in Spring Valley Walleye Club’s sauger and walleye tournament, the Illinois River Walleye Classic.

Tom Giachetto Sr. and Tom Giachetto Jr. sat out the Masters Walleye Circuit tournament Friday and Saturday and then on Sunday took the win with a 17-pound, six-fish limit in the third points-qualifying tournament on the 2014-15 Illinois Walleye Trail circuit, according to the IWT Facebook page

Spring trout fishing season opens the morning of April 4

Two La Salle County sites will open at 5 a.m. to trout fishing, and a Bureau County site usually has a 6 a.m. opening, as the spring trout season on stocked inland waters opens Saturday, April 4.
