SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will host the National Archery in the Schools Program Illinois State Tournament Saturday, March 22 at the Orr Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Springfield.
There will be 873 archers from 32 schools competing. Last year’s tournament drew about 700 archers and 400 students competed in 2012. Top finishers qualify for a national tournament May 9-10 in Louisville, Ky.
Students compete in elementary, middle and high school divisions.
The program started in Kentucky in 2002 and expanded to include 12,000 schools and 1 million students in five countries.
