Hennepin Canal hikers head to the big city

MILAN — The monthly Hike the Hennepin event this month will be a 4.6-mile walk from the far west end of the Hennepin Canal. Anyone can join Friends of the Canal on their walk as they meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Steel Dam in Milan and are shuttled to the edge of the Mississippi River.

Directions to the meeting point: Take Interstate 80 to Interstate 280 and then to exit 15 in Milan. Turn onto East First Avenue (Airport Road) going toward Milan. Take the first road on the right (Frontage Road) and follow it to the right to 14 th Street NE past the warehouses back to the steel dam.

The monthly hikes were developed by the Friends of the Hennepin Canal as an opportunity for everyone to get to know the canal personally by hiking it from the Illinois River to the Mississippi (including the Feeder Canal) in small legs.
