IVCC plans Green Expo on April 22

Illinois Valley Community College will host its third annual Green Expo on Earth Day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 22 in the college courtyard to promote sustainability at the college and in the Illinois Valley.

Rich Escutia, master falconer, along with local musicians Human Element will return. IVCC will showcase its renewable energy curriculum and job training program and several students will display their sustainable products for sale including a solar-powered water fountain, home scale aquaponics kits, and lounge chairs made from repurposed lumber.

The expo will also feature Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm, Growing Home (organic agriculture job training), local beekeeper and educator Susan Calhoun, University of Illinois Master Gardeners, Zone 5 Perennials and more.

All individuals, groups and businesses are invited to participate, educate and market goods and services, said event organizer and sociology instructor Jared Olesen. There is no charge for participation.

“Just bring your materials and enthusiasm,” Olesen said.

Food will be available and snacks provided to all vendors. If it rains, the event will be moved to the lower gym. Contact Olesen at jared_olesen@ivcc.edu or (815) 224-0281 or 309-287-2464.
