PRINCETON — Bureau County 4-H will offer an informational meeting on the 4-H Shooting Sports Program at 5 p.m, Saturday, March 9 at the Extension office,850 Thompson St.,Princeton.
Advance registration is required. To register, call (815) 875-2878. Both parents and youth interested in the program are encouraged to attend.
The 4-H Shooting Sports program offers youth opportunities to learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, principles of hunting and archery and more. Activities of the program and the support of adult leaders should provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.
The March 9 meeting will include the program overview and goals, costs, volunteer roles, opportunities available in Bureau County and resources needed; schedules of upcoming programs and registration information; and information on firearms and other equipment used in the program
BureauCountyplans to offer a six-session air rifle program in April and May, and a six-session shotgun program in June and July. Air rifle is open to all youth ages 8-18 as of Sept. 1, 2012; shotgun is open to youth ages 10-18 as of last September.
Additional adult volunteers are needed to serve as assistant instructors.

Bureau County also welcomes volunteers wishing to be certified instructors in the 4-H Shooting Sports program. The next training for certified instructors will be May 3-5 at 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello. If interested in applying to be a certified instructor, call the extension office.
