Charles Sims

Charles H. Sims, 80, of Tiskilwa passed away Aug. 12, 2014, in Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tiskilwa.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Charles was born April 4, 1934, in rural Tiskilwa to Paul and Agatha (Taylor) Sims. He married Phyllis Elmore on June 19, 1954 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tiskilwa.

He farmed for 13 years and later raised rat terrier puppies. He had retired from the Henry Grain Elevator after 30 years. He attended Bureau Township School and graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1952. He enjoyed coon hunting, attending Flea-Market in Rutledge, Mo., and restoring Massey Harris Tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sims of Tiskilwa; five sons, Dan (Julie) Sims of St. Charles, Mo., John (Jayne Barnes) Sims of Tiskilwa, Wayne (Wendy Kenny) Sims of Tiskilwa, Tom (Ruth) Sims of Tiskilwa, and Andy Sims of Princeton; four daughters, Jill (Ray) Carrington of Wyanet, Wanda (Gary) Wagner of Tiskilwa, Jacqualyn (Mark) Karlosky of Tiskilwa and Janet (Mike) Rosenberger of El Paso, Ill.; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred (Sharon) Sims of St. Charles, Ill., Cletus (Nancy) Sims of Tiskilwa, Edward (Mary Jo) Sims of Palatine; six sisters, Elizabeth Downey of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jenirose (Donald) Houston of Tiskilwa, Mary Sims of Loves Park, Clara (George) Janet of The Villages, Fla., Cecelia Sims of Princeton and Carol (Mark) Albrecht of Ohio, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lori Carrington; one sister-in-law, Thedie Sims; and one brother-in-law, Joe Downey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Tiskilwa Ambulance Service or St. Louis Catholic School.
