Charlotte Elizabeth (Hurst) Knuckey, 91, of Peru, formerly of Scales Mound, died peacefully in her sleep June 21, 2014, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Scales Mound, with the Rev. Stanislaw Kos officiating. Burial will be at Scales Mound Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday in the church. Miller-Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound is assisting the family.
She was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Potosi, Wis., to Tony and Margaret Hurst. She married David Trevarthan Knuckey on Nov. 23, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa.
She was a graduate of Potosi High School, class of 1939, and graduated from Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1942.
Starting their family of five children in Scales Mound, Charlotte and David moved to Mendota, where they lived for 14 years. They enjoyed retirement years with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their lake home at Lake Wildwood.
She was known for her sense of humor, witty comebacks (appropriate or not), and love of books. When it came to sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking or baking, Charlotte was one of the best and this will also be a part of her legacy.
Surviving family includes daughter-in law Peggy Knuckey of Ruskin, Fla.; son James (Connie) Knuckey of Moline, daughter, Linda Lambel of McHenry; daughter Barbara (Dale) Holloway of Mendota, daughter Donna (Bill) Donna of Magnolia. Charlotte was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband on June, 19 1995; and one son, Donald Knuckey.
She was the sister of the David Hurst (deceased) and Rosemary Hurst of South Milwaukee, Wis.
