Joseph Oscar McCauley



Joseph Oscar McCauley, 87, of 504 16th St., Mendota died May 29, 2014, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Services were today in Holy Cross Church, Mendota with the Rev. Fredi Gomez-Torres officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with full military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079.
Visitation was Sunday in Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota
He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Macon Township to Edward and Alma (Lamkin) McCauley. He married Mary E. Klein on July 25, 1953, in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown.
Oscar served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Mendota Reporter and at Wayside Press for 25 years before retiring as a machine operator at Fantasy Flavors for 15 years.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Mendota; five sons, Larry (Judy) McCauley of Dunlap, John (Bev) McCauley of Mendota, Bruce (Debbie) McCauley of North Little Rock, Ark., Kevin McCauley of Ottawa and Mark (Kimberly) McCauley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Bonnie (Ken) Bernardin of Rochelle; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Felix (Julie) McCauley of Racine, Wis.; and two sisters, Katherine Murphy of Peru and Mary Kuebel of Sublette.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; two brothers, Al McCauley and James McCauley; and one sister, Lola Stanard.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle.
Pallbearers were grandchildren Josh, Jordan and Zach Bernardin, Hailey Engel, Jackie Warren, Aaron, Alex, Amanda, Ben, Cory and Nick McCauley and Matt Schifeling.
