Dominic Francis Berta

Dominic Francis Berta, 88, of Palatine, formerly of Spring Valley, died peacefully at home on April 14, 2014.

Funeral services were April 22 in St. Thomas of Villanova parish, Palatine, with the Rev. Thomas Rzepiela officiating. Burial was at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Dominic (Francis) was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Spring Valley to Frank Berta and Virginia (Pallai) Berta, and was also raised by his stepfather, George Aschenbrenner. He married Violet (Faletti) Berta in 1949 in St. Anthony’s Church, Spring Valley.

He was a graduate of St. Bede Academy. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a ball turret gunner in the European Theater of Operations.

He was the Grand Lodge Representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers until his retirement.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Frank (Dina) Berta of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Cathy (DeWayne) Husser of Forest, Va., Mary Berta of Chicago, Joan Berta of Palatine and Teresa (Barry) Calpino of Chicago; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
