Evelyn H. Smoode, 74, of Spring Valley passed away April 20, 2014, in her home, with her family and friends at her side, after a battle with cancer.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Arlington. The Rev. Patrick Fixsen will officiate. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday in Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, as well as from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral services Monday in the church.
Evelyn was born July 21, 1939, in Henry to Otto and Florence (Bogner) Louis. She married Samuel Smoode on April 20, 1963, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Henry.
Evelyn was a graduate of Henry-Senachwine High School and a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Bloomington. She worked as a registered nurse and nursing supervisor at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley from March 1963 until her retirement in April 2006. After retiring, she worked for Illinois Valley Hospice until April 2008.
Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, JoAnn Pozzi of Spring Valley, Silvia Smoode of Granville and Jane (Jim) Hughes of Metamora; two sons, Joe (Jennifer) Smoode and Keith (Jill) Smoode, both of Granville; nine grandchildren, Alyssa Holmes, Alley Carlson, Samantha and Dominic Smoode, Hunter and Ava Hughes, Tori Smoode, Kendell Owens and Gianna Pozzi; one brother, Norbert Louis of Putnam; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Corpus of Peru; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, in 1995; her parents; her sister, Cecelia Hartwig; and her son-in-law, Rob Pozzi.
