Mildred (McLachlan) Mussatto
Mildred (McLachlan) Mussatto, 95, formerly of Harding, passed away April 10, 2014, in her daughter’s home in La Salle.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Harding United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Cynthia Zolk, the Rev. Duane Kaufman and Brother Luke McLachlan. Burial will be at Precinct Cemetery, rural Earlville.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday in Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa.
Mildred Bernice Mussatto was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Prairie Center to Walter Russell and Olga Bertina (Ostrem) McLachlan. She married Raymond Martin Mussatto on March 26, 1944, in Freedom Lutheran Church in Freedom Township.
She was employed by La Salle County ASC office, the La Salle County Supervisor of Assessments, Olmstead Loan Co. in Ottawa and retired from Stevenson Transfer. She enjoyed volunteering at Ottawa Community Hospital, now OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was the last surviving graduate of the 1936 class at Serena High School and was the oldest member of Harding United Methodist Church.
Survivors are her children, Ann (Francis) Newell of Ottawa, Linda (Peter) Royers of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna Mussatto, with whom she shared her home, in La Salle, Lois (Richard) Peterson of McNabb and Paul (Anita) Mussatto of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jamie (Valerie) Newell of Plano, Jason (Amy) Newell of Winnebago, Stephanie Finley of Decatur, Michelle (Jason) Woods of Sheridan, Garrett (Samantha) Peterson of Oglesby, Misty Mussatto (Nathan Groomes) of St. Petersburg, Fla. Also surviving are stepgrandchildren Cindy Becker of Peoria, Pam (Doug) Miller of Peoria, Steve (Marie) Newell of Utica, Kim (Bob) Kolesar of Ottawa, Steven (Kristin) Peterson of Secor and Jason Spayer of Minneapolis, and their families; great-grandchildren Alana and Jackson Newell, Andrew and Matthew Finley, Ruthanne, Sophia, Charles and Maximus Woods, Seth Peterson, Cody Bisgrove, Emma and Ella Groomes and Eian Spayer. Also surviving is her brother Howard (Rose) McLachlan of La Salle; a nephew, Brother Luke McLachlan of St. Bede Abbey in Peru. She is also survived by nieces Theresa McLachlan of La Salle, Nancy Thompson of Ottawa, Mary Ellen Krueger of Ottawa, Rita Lyall of Aurora; cousins Elaine Ostrem of rural Harding, and Myrla (Richard) Randall of Yorkville; special friends Rita Hallett of rural Ottawa and Patricia Graffis of Ottawa and her caregiver, Dawn Meyer of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; a stillborn son and a sister, Alice Lucille; a son-in-law, Dr. James Moran, a nephew, Norman Thompson, niece, Jean O’Toole, and sisters and brothers-in- law, Irene Krueger, James Mussatto, Marie and Russell Thompson and Joseph and Harriet Mussatto.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren with their families serving as honorary pallbearers, along with Nancy Thompson and Patricia Graffis.
Memorials may be directed to the family to establish a memorial in her name at Harding United Methodist Church or Illinois Valley Community Hospital Hospice.
