Helen L. Popurella, 83, of Oglesby died at 4:46 a.m. April 5, 2014, in Manor Court of Peru. Services will be at noon Saturday in Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral chapel.
Helen was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Oglesby to Henry and Helen (Espley) O’Brien. She married Joseph Popurella on April 23, 1949, in Oglesby Union Church.
She worked as an accountant at Eicor and later for Sundstrand and was a member of Oglesby Union Church.
Helen retired from Sundstrand to travel with her husband to Alabama, Canada, and Wisconsin where they hunted and fished together. She and Joe enjoyed camping in their trailer at Holiday Hollow Campground in Lowell. They owned an island with their good friend John Dittle, and the family called it “Joe and John’s Second Chance Camp.”
Survivors are her husband, Joe of Oglesby; a son, Joseph (Sherri) Popurella of Oglesby; two grandchildren, Bec (Brian Cruz) Popurella and Kristie (Louie) Cruz; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Popurella and Hannah Halberg.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two uncles.
