Paul James “Jim” Riota, 81, of Peru passed away March 22, 2014, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Peru with the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., officiating.  Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley with full military rites. 
Visitat-ion will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, with recital of the rosary at 3:45 p.m.  Additional visitation will be 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Mr. Riota was born June 1, 1932, in Spring Valley to Paul and Jennie Riota. He married Eileen Rogowski on Sept. 6, 1958, in St. Mary’s Church, Utica.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a toolmaker and machinist at Westclox, Peru and retired from Caterpillar, Pontiac. 
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Peru, former member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, La Salle, and lifetime member of La Salle Knights of Columbus.
Jim was an accomplished musician, playing the trumpet in various local bands including Joe DeZutti Band and Johnny Kaye Orchestra.
He is survived by his wife; one niece, Joan (Gerald) Hanck of Peru; two nephews, Michael and Robert Riota of Florida; one great-nephew; one great-great nephew and one great-great niece.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Robert Riota.
Pallbearers will be William, Richard, David, Robert and Lawrence Rogowski and Gerald Hanck.
Memorials may be directed to family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
