Dennis H. Metzler, 76, of La Salle died at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2014, in Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital, Glendale Heights after he suffered a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hurst Funeral Home, La Salle, with the Rev. Brett Todd, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of La Salle, officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle with a flag-folding service by La Salle/Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services in the funeral home. Mr. Metzler was born Sept. 19, 1937, in La Salle to Harlan W. and Lois A. (Stockhaus) Metzler. He served with the U.S. Army Nov. 2, 1960-Aug. 5, 1963 as an MP and was stationed in Japan. Mr Metzler worked as a draftsman at Chamlin & Associates for more than 40 years. He was a member of La Salle Elks and life member of VFW. He is survived by one daughter Claudette (Jeff) Hawkings of Aurora; one son, Patrick Metzler of Aurora; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Fupler.
