Elvera Capponi

Elvera Capponi, 93, of Tonica died at 9:35 a.m. Jan. 6, 2014, in Heritage Health of La Salle.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. The Rev. J.A. Small will officiate. Entombment will be in Shrine of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.
Elvera was born Feb. 3, 1920, at home in Oglesby to Edward and Adele (Sessa) Marzetta. She married Patrick Capponi on Aug. 23, 1941, in Sacred Heart Church, Oglesby.  He died Nov. 12, 1999.
She attended LaSalle-Peru Township High School and L-P-O Junior College and taught country school near Lostant. She moved to Chicago in 1941 and worked at Montgomery Ward. She followed her husband to Atoria, Ore., in 1944, where he was stationed in the Navy. There she worked at Portland National Bank. 
Moving back to Chicago in 1945, she worked at Manufacturer’s National Bank. They moved to Toluca in 1949 and to a farm near Oglesby in 1951. Elvera worked in the Starved Rock Library System and at the Oglesby Public Library.
She was a member of Holy Family Church and Oglesby AARP. She also volunteered for Oglesby Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Capponi of Vernon, Conn., and Ken (Beth) Capponi of Tonica; one brother, Charles Marzetta of California; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 12, 1999; three brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church.
