Bernice A. Heinz, 89, formerly of Tonica, died Dec. 6, 2013, in Heartland Health Care Center, Henry, surrounded by her family.
Private graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Tonica, with the Rev. Mark Nowakowski officiating.
A public memorial service will be in Tonica United Methodist Church at a later date. Hurst Funeral Home, Tonica, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Heinz was born May 7, 1924, in Ottawa to John and Katherine (Stranka) Tuleck. Bernice married Roy M. Heinz on July 10, 1946.
She worked at Union Carbide in Ottawa for 10 years and also was a homemaker. She enjoyed golfing and shot a hole in one in 1976 at South Bluff Golf Course. She enjoyed playing bridge with small groups and also duplicate bridge at Eureka Bank in La Salle. Bernice took great pride in her garden and landscaping her beautiful yard.
Mrs. Heinz, a loving mother and grandmother, is survived by two daughters, Trudy Heinz of Varna and Sally (Don) Ohmart of Normal; grandchildren, Julie Burgoni of Bend, Ore., Mike (Megan) Burgoni of West Chicago, Stacey (Jonathan) Sonne of Bend, Ore., and Jennifer (Eric) Immke of Champaign; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Isabel, Carson, Cameron and Brooklyn Lee; one sister, Ann Day of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; a daughter, Susan Smith; a brother Theodore “Tudge” Tuleck; and two sisters, Stella Trujillo and Mary Tuleck.
When the Lord calls our loved one home, he leaves a gift of memories. She will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be directed to Tonica United Methodist Church.
