Lena D. Surr, 88, of Spring Valley, died at 4:30 a.m. Nov. 27, 2013, in Pleasant View Lutheran Home, Ottawa. 

Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (Greenwood St. location). The Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, with a prayer service to be conducted at 7:30 p.m. 

Lena was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Spring Valley to Letizio and Sadie (Biagioni) Baracani. She married William “Gus” Surr on Dec. 5, 1942, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Spring Valley. 

Lena was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (formerly Immaculate Conception) and the Maria Society of the church.

Survivors include her husband, William “Gus” Surr of Spring Valley; seven daughters, Nancy (Lee) Andreoni of Spring Valley, Rose Battaglia of La Salle, Patricia (Bill) Turczyn of Spring Valley, Linda Vecchia of Spring Valley, Mary (Denny) Armata of Peru, Laura (Mike) Petrinec of Bloomington and Leanne (Mark) Kuhn of Forsyth; one son, Luke Surr of Spring Valley; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer and John (Mary) Baracani, both of Spring Valley; two sisters, Norma “Cookie” Hall of Spring Valley and Paula Leynaud of Peru.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William and John, both in infancy; one grandson, Robert Donahue; one great-great-grandson, Hunter Himes; four sisters, Delores Actis, Rose Driver, Mary Petroski and Helen Niedzwecki; and two brothers in infancy.
