Gilbert "Gibby" Sons
Gilbert “Gibby” Sons, 67, of Oglesby died at 8:43 p.m. Oct. 1, 2013, in Heritage Health of Peru following an extended illness.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby with military honors by La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.
Visitat-ion will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral chapel.
Gibby was born June 26, 1946, in Oglesby to Cecil and Mabel (Billhymer) Sons.
He was employed by LTV Steel until his retirement. He was a member of Oglesby American Legion and Harley-Davidson Owner’s Group. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking, running and photography. He traveled all across the country on his Harley. He attended La Salle-Peru Township High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force 1963-66 and was stationed in England.
He is survived by three daughters, Terri (Frank) Taylor of Peru, Mary (Matt) Plochocki of Chillicothe and Megan Hass of La Salle; one brother, Carl (Bev) Sons of Oglesby; four sisters, Roberta Panier of Spring Valley, Pauline Camp of Bloomington, Carol Calvert of Amarillo, Texas, and Sandra Kozell of Oglesby; three grandchildren, Evan, Morgan and Cailey; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Robert “Huck” Billhymer and Kelly, Frank and Glen Sons.
