Gilbert L. “Gib” Smith, 84, of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Aug. 17, 2013.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Wyanet to Lawrence and Beatrice (Thompson) Smith. He married Charlene Batten on July 24, 1949, in Peru.
He graduated from Hall Township High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne Division, stationed in Japan.
He founded and operated the DeLuxe Equipment Co., Inc., a commercial oven manufacturing firm located in Bradenton, Fla.
Gib was a rare individual who loved everyone and everyone loved him. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors are four daughters, Jill (Bob) Green of Pickerington, Ohio, Heidi Clark of Rochelle, Amy (Ron) Marini of Peru and Wendy (Jay) Tunget of Peru; five grandchildren, Lindsay Frank, Natalie Clark, Nina Marini, Evan Marini and Logan Tunget; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Makenna Frank; two brothers, William Smith of Farmington, Mich., and Ray (Lois) Smith of Peru; one sister, Carol (Dennis) Bogatitus of Spring Valley; and a special friend, Sandy Smith of Bradenton, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Peggy Jane Kinkin; and his oldest grandson, Brandon Jay Tunget.
