Charles “Charley” I. Walker, 89, of Ottawa died Aug. 15, 2013, in La Salle County Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick’s Church, Ottawa, with the Rev. Hope Klutsey, S.M.A., officiating. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery, with military services.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday in Ottawa Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Angelica, N.Y., to Carlos David and May (Butler) Walker. He married Marian Heary on June 5, 1948, in Sacred Heart, St. Mary’s, Pa.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked at the medical center as a lab tech and X-ray tech. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, American Heart & Cancer Association, Community Concert Association, was a Boy Scout leader for many years, and was president of the parents’ club at St. Patrick School.
He is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Reynolds of Ottawa and Mary (Robert) Miller of Marseilles; two sons, Patrick Walker of Ottawa and Tim (Dar) Walker of Seneca, eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Pontzer of Ridgway, Pa., and Lois (William) Davis of Bennington, Vt.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 10, 1994; two sons, Carl and Wayne; and a daughter, Caroline.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church or La Salle County Nursing Home.
