John Brewer

John W. Brewer, 87, a resident of Heritage Health, La Salle and formerly of Peru died at 10:50 a.m. Aug. 13, 2013, in the nursing home.

Cremation rites will be accorded and family services will take place at a later date. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brewer was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Saxonburg, Pa., to Joseph Melvin and Esther Ella (Flick) Brewer.  He married Betty Freehling Dec. 1, 1945 in Trenton, Pa.

He was a terminal manager for Schwerman Trucking. He was a past trustee of Oglesby Elks.
John loved and took great pride in all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Ginger (James) Yaklich of La Salle and Sherry (William) Ritchie of Philmont, N.Y.; one brother, James of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Wendy, Brandi, Luke, Matt and Jonelle; and seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Griffin, Taylor, Madalyn, Sophia, Eloise and Megan.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 14, 2004; and one brother Harold.
