Donald L. Johnson, 73, of Streator died May 1, 2013, in  St. Mary’s Hospital, Streator, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator. The Rev. Charles Cline will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was born April 25, 1940, in Long Point to Harold and Bonnie (Morrow) Johnson. He married Deborah Ragusa on Dec. 5, 1991, in Ottawa, Illinois. She survives.

He is a graduate of Dwight Township High School. He had been employed in his younger life at Armstrong Lumber Yard. He was manager of National Tea Grocery Store, Streator Foods Grocery Store and Ben Franklin. After he retired he joined PPM LLC Management Group. He and his wife, Debbie, were area managers in the state of Illinois and manager of Streator Manor Apartment Community.

Don fought courageously and twice won the battle of cancer. He was a hard working, gentle giant in his own way, a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Don lived and appreciated life to the fullest.

Survivors are his wife, best friend and eternal soul mate, Deborah (Ragusa) Johnson of Streator; one daughter, Laurie (Michael) Kubiak of Normal; one brother, Edward (Carole) Johnson of Normal; one sister, Lillian (Phillip) Cross of Flanagan; one son, Donald Johnson of Del City, Okla.; one stepson, James Taylor of Streator; three grandsons, Daniel and Ryley Taylor of Streator and Ryan Kubiak of Normal; three granddaughters, Cassi Kubiak of Normal and Ashley and Meaghan Johnson of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and two great-granddaughters, Miss Addie Harlan and Miss Sydnie Taylor, both of Streator.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shirley Iverson; one stepdaughter, Cindy (McCann) Kinkade; one stepson, Eric Taylor; and one granddaughter, Jenni Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, Sherry (Michael) Elliott, Bonnie (Jerry) Libby and Jessi Ragusa; nephews, Terry and Kevin Cook; son, Donald Johnson; brother, Edward Johnson; granddaughter, Cassi Kubiak; and friends, Dan and Karen McNeill.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dan and Ryley Taylor; niece, Amy (Michael) Ragusa Goodrich; stepson, Jim Taylor; grandson, Ryan Kubiak; and brother-in-law, Charles (Kathy) Ragusa.
