Geneva Carol Varner



Geneva Carol Varner, 71 of Aurora, formerly of Paw Paw, died unexpectedly at 4:22 p.m. March 15, 2013, in Rush Copley Medical Center, Aurora.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota, with Pastor Sam Park officiating. Burial will be private. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Carol was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Lafayette, Ind., to Henley J and Ruth (Allen) Gibson. She graduated from Rollo High School in 1960 and married Roger “Shorty” Simpson on June 9, 1961, in Paw Paw; he preceded her in death on May 13, 1990. She then married Dennis Varner on May 26, 1995, in Aurora.

She had worked in food service for 10 years at Mendota Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Aurora; one daughter, Trudy (Larry Gascoigne) McCarty of LaMoille; two sons, Jeffrey Simpson and Jon Simpson, both of Paw Paw; three stepdaughters, Ellen Varner of Albuquerque, N.M., Libby (Robert) Thomas of Prospect Heights and Kirstin (Michael) Belman of Columbia, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Gibson of LaMoille and Wayne Gibson of Walnut; three sisters, Cathy (Larry) Strothman of Sheridan, Betty Janes of Earlville and Linda Lewis of Harlan County, Ky.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Janet Spiess; and two brothers, James Gibson and Jerry Gibson.

Memorials may be directed to Scleroderma Foundation.
