John H. Pohar, 88, of Marseilles passed away Jan. 31, 2013, in Tigard, Ore. John moved to Tigard in 2010 to live with his daughter, Connie Cresto. He spent the last three months of his life at Golden Gate Adult Home Care, Tigard.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Seals-Campbell Funeral Home, Marseilles, with the Rev. Caroline Lukasick of Marseilles United Methodist Church officiating.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Marseilles.

Mr. Pohar was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Oglesby to John and Josephine (Setina) Pohar. In 1944, he married Helen Bonge of Ottawa, who preceded him in death in 1982. Then in 1983, he married Lois Caputo Seaborn, who preceded him in death in 2007.

He was a member of Marseilles United Methodist Church, Marseilles Rotary Club and Marseilles Masonic Lodge 417 AF & AM. He was employed by Illinois Nitrogen as a supervisor, was a lifelong farmer in both Brookfield and Deer Park townships, and was a La Salle County tax assessor. After his retirement, he rode thousands of miles on his bicycle in and around Marseilles.

John is survived by two daughters, Sandra (William) Bayer of Brooksville, Fla., and Connie (Gregg) Cresto of Tigard; three sons, Ronald (Diane) Pohar of Ottawa, Larry (Donna) Pohar of Utica and Scott (Kim Sharp) Pohar of Ottawa; two stepsons, Richard (Karla) Seaborn of Johnsburg and Scott (Karen) Seaborn of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Heath Cresto; two sisters, Margaret Becker and Helen Smith; and one brother, Lee Pohar.

His grandsons, Houston Cresto, Ron Pohar II, Todd Pohar, Brandon Pohar, Marc Pohar, Nickolas Pohar, and Robert Bayer will be pallbearers.
