Gregory Colmone, 53, of 904 Hillside Court, Oglesby died at 7:58 a.m. Jan. 29, 2013, in St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.
Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Spring Valley. The Rev. Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and also a half hour before prayers on Saturday.
He was born Aug. 25, 1959, in Spring Valley to Frank and Barbara (Mickel) Colmone. He married Rita Spayer on Nov. 12, 2004, in Las Vegas.
He was vice president of Spring Valley City Bank, where he worked for the past 25 years. He graduated from Hall High School in 1977 and the University of Illinois.
He was a member of Starved Rock Runners Club, St. Jude Runners and University of Illinois Alumni Association. He was a former Spring Valley Rotary Club president, former Spring Valley city treasurer and former Spring Valley Elementary Schools board member and had been a member of the Spring Valley Jaycees.
He was devoted to his family, a loving husband, son, brother, stepdad, grandpa and uncle. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, Illini fan and he enjoyed going to Illini football and basketball games with family and friends. He was the longest-running crew chief for the Spring Valley Walleye Tournament.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Colmone of Oglesby; parents, Frank and Barbara Colmone of Spring Valley; two stepsons, Jason (Mindy) Merriman of DePue and Chad (Ashley) Merriman of Peru; two grandsons, Cole Merriman and Ryan Kalman; two brothers, Ken (Anita) Colmone of El Paso and Doug (Teresa) Colmone of Spring Valley; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
