Richard Kolowski



Richard F. Kolowski, 82, of Oglesby died 1:37 p.m. Dec. 22, 2012, shortly after arrival in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby, with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. The Rev Gary Blake will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle. La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group will conduct military services. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Mr. Kolowski was born June 22, 1930, in La Salle to George and Marie (Wyciskalla) Kolowski. He married Lorraine J. Hancock on Sept. 26, 1953, in Holy Family Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Marquette Cement, which later became Lone Star and Buzzi Unicem, in Oglesby for 17 years. He then worked for Illinois Cement for 14 years.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Sue (Randy) Popurella of McNabb; one son, David (Gina) Kolowski of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Pearl (Louis) Giacobazzi of Peru and Georgia Splittstoesser of Peru.

Pallbearers will be Dan and Todd Hancock, Paul and Richard Giacobazzi, Michael and Clayton Splittstoesser, David and George Kolowski.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be directed to Oglesby Ambulance, Oglesby Library or Holy Family Church.
