Salvatore Arthur Maggio, 64, of La Salle passed away Dec. 10, 2012, in Asta Care Center of Toluca.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home, La Salle, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, La Salle. The Rev. Antonio Dittmer, pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes, will officiate. Private burial will be at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle with full military rites conducted by La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with a liturgical prayer service at 3:45 p.m. A Marine honor guard will be provided by Illinois Valley Marine Corps League.

Mr. Maggio was born April 3, 1948, in La Salle to Samuel and Bernice (Jones) Maggio. He married Carla Dean Kallner in 1998.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1966-72. During his proud service as a Marine, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and Presidential Unit Citation.
He worked at Marquette Cement, Lone Star and Buzzi Unicem. He was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in La Salle, Marine Corps League of Jonesville and La Salle VFW.

Survivors are two sons, Salvatore C. Maggio of La Salle and James J. (Missy) Maggio of La Salle; four daughters, Samantha Lee (James) Rossio of La Salle, Mariellen (Susan) Krischel of Oglesby, Joanne (P.J.) Frank of Yorkville and Sandra Laurie of Arizona; 20 grandchildren; one brother, Jasper “Butch” Maggio of La Salle; two sisters, Sandra (Eugene) Antas of Elmhurst and Diana (Steve) Mueller of Oglesby; and his two former wives, Marsha Piriano and Janice Turczyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carla Dean.

Pallbearers will be Jim Rossio, Jay Maggio, Sammy Maggio, Jasper Maggio, Eugene Antas and Steve Mueller.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
