Velma A. Haugens, 90, of Toluca died at 8:50 a.m. Nov. 19, 2012, in Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke, where she had resided the past two years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Toluca. The Rev. Ryan Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Toluca. 

Visitation will be 9-10:45 a.m. Friday in the church. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Toluca, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 4, 1922, in Bruning, Nev., to Sherman and Louise (Johnson) Schoenholz. She married Bernard C. “Buss” Haugens on Aug. 18, 1943, at Bruning Air Force Base, Nebraska.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and of Ladies Aid.  She was a 50-year member of Home Extension and a 4-H leader for more than 20 years.
Survivors are three daughters, Mary Louise (George) Barisch of Toluca, Jane (Kenneth) Spear of Toluca and Therese (Thomas) Mueller of Peoria; two sons, Paul (Nancy) Haugens of Naperville and Ralph Haugens of Baton Rouge, La.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; one daughter, Claire Paluska in 2002; three sisters and a brother.

Memorias may be directed to Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke or the donor’s choice.
