Welcome Race fans!
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and subsequent weekend. I know I enjoyed my time with my family as well as my girlfriend Justina’s family, which welcomed a new addition in Justina’s niece Sawyer, who was born Thursday. She’s very tiny (6 pounds, 3 ounces, 19 3/4 inches) and very adorable. Maybe I can make her an Amazing Race fan someday.
Now on to Sunday’s episode.
In my first blog of the season, I wrote I hoped Karma would help Amy and Daniel, who helped Abbie and Ryan during the first leg.
It turns out Karma did not help Amy, a double amputee, and Daniel, but Karma did show up Sunday to bite Abbie and Ryan, who early in the season appeared to be the favorites to win.
The dating divorcees took Amy and Daniel’s help in the first leg then ran past them to claim first place, and Sunday Karma paid them back.
Abbie and Ryan missed their connecting flight because they didn’t check in properly, then their plane was delayed by a mechanical problem and last but not least, they were U-turned and eliminated.
I can’t say I was sad to see them go although they were my top pick in the draft of teams Justina and I held.
There are only four teams left and next week’s previews looked intense. I’m excited to see how the final few episodes play out.
Order of Finish
- Natalie and Nadiya, twins (won second, ninth legs)
- James and Jaymes, friends/Chippendales (won eighth leg)
- Trey and Lexi, dating (won sixth, seventh legs)
- Josh and Brent, life partners
- Abbie and Ryan, dating (won fourth, fifth legs, ELIMINATED)
Thumbs Up: To Abbie and Brent for knowing the flag represented the Netherlands and they had to fly to Amsterdam. I’m not sure I would have known that. Trey and Lexi along with Nadiya and Natalie thought they were going to France. I couldn’t have been the only one hoping someone would actually fly to France, was I?
Thumbs Down: To Ryan for being the only person (at least from what we saw) not to pole vault over the 12-foot creek in one attempt. Maybe if he wasn’t spending all his time feeling sorry for himself he could have performed better.
Bonus Thumbs Down: To Josh for suggesting he and Brent go with Abbie and Ryan to finish the other side of the Detour after they were U-turned. I understand the teams have worked together before, but are you really going to put yourself in jeopardy of being eliminated? Thank goodness Brent talked some sense into Josh.
Best Moment: As I said, I wasn’t too broken up about Abbie and Ryan going home, but it was a nice moment when Abbie danced with the lady and she gave Abbie the rest of the money she needed to finish the task. It was a rough day and it was nice to see a stranger help someone out.
Quote of the Week: “That was cute when there were 11 of us. Get with the program,” Nadiya or Natalie (couldn’t tell which this time) to James (the blonde one) when he said he was uncomfortable U-turning someone and wanted to be nice.
Question of the Week: What individual contestant is your favorite?
