72nd wedding anniversary


Bud and Lainie Spencer of Peru, formerly of Marseilles, are celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary with friends. Shortly after their marriage in 1942, they were separated due to Bud's deployment in Europe.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Elizabeth) Spencer of Liberty Estates, Peru, will celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Allen G. “Bud” Spencer and the former Elizabeth Elaine “Lainie” Carlson were united in marriage Aug. 15, 1942, in First Congregational Church, Marseilles. The Rev. Edgar Winn, now deceased, officiated.
Attendants were Virginia Spencer and Clinton Peddicord, both now deceased.
The couple are the parents of two children, Tom Spencer and Sally Spencer, both of Marseilles. They also have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spencer was employed as an insurance agent, retiring in 1983 when he sold his business. He served as board chairman of Twin Oaks Savings Bank, retiring in 1996. He served in the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant tank platoon leader with the 745th tank Battalion in England and Europe during World War II, entering seven weeks after being married.
Mrs. Spencer is a homemaker. They resided in Marseilles for 84 years prior to moving to Peru.
