The holiday season is upon us, and with the warm, fuzzy feelings Christmas may bring us, getting ready for holidays may bring something more that makes you want to say, “bah-hum-bug.” What is it? The answer is stress. The holiday season is a bustling time of year for many families. Picking out the perfect Christmas tree, hanging strings of colorful lights on your house and stockings off the fireplace mantle is only the beginning.

She's dancing again
Rene Rebholz had stopped walking due to the pain in her hip. Not completely, of course. But the walking she did was from the house to car to work. That’s it.
But worst of all was no dancing and no playing on the floor with her grandson and grandnieces and nephews. “When you’re in pain, your quality of life simply is not what it should be,” Rebholz said. “I had chosen to not walk and then decided to get help.”

Right on the nose
Katherine Kendall had “four or five” sinus infections in a row and could not take anymore. Desperate for relief, the Mendota student visited an ear nose throat specialist who recommended going into her sinuses surgically to get things moving again. Kendall had never been anesthetized, however, and wasn’t eager to undergo major surgery. Then she learned of a relatively new outpatient technique available in Peru: Balloon sinuplasty, a procedure in which a balloon is inflated inside the sinuses to increase the size of the opening six-fold.

Flip flops: Foot friend or foe

Simple in design and inexpensive in price, flip-flops may seem like the perfect footwear as the temperature rises, but experts warn against them. The American Podiatric Medical Association warns that the lightweight sandals can increase the likelihood of experiencing tendinitis, stress fractures and other injuries. “The biggest thing is it doesn’t offer the foot a lot of support,” said Dr. Larry Ketner, a Peru podiatrist.
