OK let’s be honest. How many times have you told yourself you were going to have a garage sale? How many garage sales have you actually had? Kristine Hafley of La Salle has tried a few times to have a garage sale, but it never seems to work out. “Any time I’ve done a garage sale in the past it’s either downpoured or been freezing cold out,” she said, adding that it even snowed on one of her spring sales. “I’m pretty sure I’m cursed as far as that goes.”

Singing for support
When the tape started rolling, guitarist Dylan Torres launched into his progressions while Brian Robson sang a throaty “Everybody Hurts,” a moving dirge by R.E.M. It was an appropriate choice for the project at hand: Torres is leading local musicians through the recording of a CD of popular covers. Proceeds will help families struggling with cancer to pay the light bill and buy groceries.
