Welcome Race fans!
They’re calling this season All Stars for a reason. The second episode of the season showed that all of the teams are pretty equal as the first seven teams finished within a few minutes of each other.
Brendon and Rachel won the leg by beating Margie and Luke in a tight foot race to the mat, and before the first two teams walked away from Phil, five more teams joined them.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had this many teams on the mat before,” Phil said.
I hope the rest of the season continues like this.
Order of Finish
- Brendon and Rachel, married former Big Brother contestants
- Margie and Luke, mother and son
- Caroline and Jen, country singers (Used Express pass given to them by Jet and Cord)
- Dave and Connor, father/son cancer survivors
- Flight Time and Big Easy, Harlem Globetrotters
- Jet and Cord, brothers (Won first leg)
- Leo and Jamal, cousins
- Jessica and John, engaged
- Joey and Meghan, friends/YouTube stars
- Mark and Mallory (ELIMINATED)
Thumbs Up: To Mark, Mallory and all the other teams for how they handled the Kentucky pair’s elimination. It was nice to see all the other teams waiting to support the Kentucky pair at the mat when they came in last. Mark and Mallory were both classy in their post-race comments. Mark said there was no point in blaming anyone and also said, “I guess I wasn’t meant to go around the world without Bopper.” Bopper is Mark’s lifelong friend and partner on his last Race who was unable to compete this time due to health reasons.
Thumbs Down: While Mark and Mallory handled their exit gracefully, they didn’t handle their mistake too well. Mark’s bag got left at the Road Block when Mark thought Mallory had it and Mallory thought Mark grabbed it. They argued about whether to go back or not. They ended up going back despite Mallory having Mark’s passport and medicine, and it cost them. I understand it’s tough to do the Race with anyone let alone a stranger, but they didn’t do a very good job communicating and discussing the best option to handle their mistake.
Best Moment: I enjoyed the little girl giving Flight Time a hard time at the Road Block when he was building the toy car. “You’re sweating a lot,” she told him. She also said, “I’m going to complain about you” as Flight Time tried to shoo her away.
Quote of the Week: We got this one within the first couple minutes of the episode. “We managed to have one leg where Rachel didn’t cry, so we’re doing pretty good,” Brendon joked as he assessed his team’s performance in the first leg. Rachel, who is known for whining and crying on this show and Big Brother, did cry in the second leg, but it was about Mark and Mallory being eliminated rather than her being a baby about a challenge or something Brendon said or did.
Question of the Week: Last week I asked who you thought was going to win. This week it’s, Who do you want to win?
