Welcome Race fans!
Well, another season of the Race is over after five continents, 10 countries and more than 30,000 miles in just 25 days.
I can’t imagine doing all that in less than a month, but it certainly would be fun to give it a try.
For me, it was a very satisfying end to the season.
Bates and Anthony were a strong team throughout and they were very entertaining to watch, so it was nice to see them rewarded with the victory.
As Nora said, “Bates and Anthony deserved it. Max and Katie were jerks nobody liked and Mona and Beth were just screwups! They got lost everyday!”
Nora and Justina both predicted Bates and Anthony after the first episode and both made sure to remind me of it when they gave their thoughts on the finale.
I had Mona and Beth. With my track record and the way those two performed, I feel lucky to have had them reach the final three.
I hope you enjoyed the blog this spring. Unfortunately, we have to wait all the way until the fall for a new season, but I hope everyone comes back then for another exciting season.
Thanks for reading.
Order of Finish
- Bates and Anthony, brothers/professional hockey players won second, sixth, seventh and eighth legs
- Max and Katie, newlyweds (won ninth, 10th, 11th legs)
- Mona and Beth, friends/roller derby moms
Thumbs Up: To the producers for some good final leg challenges. I like when they incorporate history, so sending the team’s to the site of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech and Mount Vernon was cool. The briefcase challenge and baseball challenge were fun, and the final task was challenging but doable unlike last season when it became a guessing game.
Thumbs Down: To Katie again. I feel like I’ve been a broken record on this, but she is just awful. She had been better during the three legs they won, but on the final leg she was quite mean to Max. When he was doing the briefcase challenge (which was completely luck), she said, “We are going to be in last place because he’s an idiot.” Later at the baseball challenge, she said, “Oh my God! You suck at baseball.” I don’t know how he puts up with her.
Best Moment: Watching the contestants try to run around and catch a baseball while wearing a mascot costume was entertaining. Beth even had some fun with the Nationals mascots, saying, “How’s my butt look in this baseball?” One of the other mascots responded with a whistle.
Quote of the Week: “Logically, we assumed Barack Obama was there and he had time in his schedule to take a photo with Mona and I,” Beth. The teams were told they were going to take a photo with the President, and all thought it was actually going to be the President, but really it was a souvenir photo in a store where they superimposed the President.
Order of Finish
- Max and Katie
- Bates and Anthony
- Mona and Beth
- Caroline and Jennifer, friends/country band mates (ELIMINATED)
Thumbs Up: To Caroline for her incredible patience with Jen during the bog swimming challenge. Everyone else did it with ease, but Jen struggled mightily and wanted to quit, but Caroline encouraged her and Jen eventually got it. When they were eliminated, they talked about how the Race made them closer and gave them material for songs. We’ll see if they make it big someday singing about The Amazing Race!
Thumbs Down: To Mona and Beth for their performance at the Titanic challenge. The teams were to serve a five-course meal, but they did not follow instructions and it took them awhile to figure it out even after Anthony helped them.
Best Moment: I thought Bates was hilarious throughout the episode, and I particularly enjoyed when he was spinning the plate on his finger and said, “This is why I’m serving. That’s skill right there.”
Quote of the Week: “The hardest part for me was trying to help squeeze him into that wetsuit,” Bates on helping Anthony before the bog swimming.
Question of the Week: If the Race does another season in which it brings former teams back, which team from this season would you like to see return?
For me, this is an easy answer. I’d like to see father/son cancer survivors David and Connor return. They were a strong team that had an unfortunate end with David suffering an injury that caused them to drop out.
