Below is the 2013 NewsTribune Baseball All-Area Teams:

FIRST TEAM
Brad Groleau, St. Bede

Year: Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: Groleau was a dual threat this spring both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, the right fielder finished in the area top 10 with a .465 batting average, 34 runs scored and three triples. Pitching, he compiled a 5-0 record with a 2.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Michael Hermosillo, Ottawa
Year:
Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim prospect tied for the area home run crown with four homers this season. He was also third in the area with a .485 batting average and finished in the top 10 with 30 RBIs, 36 runs scored, 11 doubles and three triples.

Logan Sparks, Marquette
Year: Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: The first-team All-Tri-County Conference pick  helped ignite the Marquette offense this year with 47 runs scored — second best in the area. He also ranked among the area’s elite with his 39 RBIs, 14 runs scored, a .466 batting average, two triples and 10 stolen bases.

Sam Lucas, St. Bede
Year:
Senior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: The second baseman/outfielder finished in the top 10 with a .463 batting average. Lucas, who scored 27 runs and registered 15 RBIs, hit for power as well as average as evidenced by his four doubles and two triples this spring for the regional-champion Bruins.

Brandon Pietrowski, St. Bede
Year: Senior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: The Bruins third baseman finished fourth in the area with a .478 batting average this spring. He also notched 22 RBIs and scored 31 runs while connecting on five doubles. On the mound, he had a 4-2 record with a 2.56 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

Austin Smith, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: The veteran third baseman hit .394 this spring for the regional-champion Cavaliers and finished in the area top 10 with two home runs. The All-Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division pick also led L-P with 28 RBIs and 10 doubles and was 6-2 on the mound.

Xavier Warren, Putnam County
Year: Senior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: An adept and versatile defender, Warren showcased a strong bat and the need for speed this spring as he led the area with 17 doubles, eight triples and 27 stolen bases. The All-Tri-County Conference first-team pick also hit .554 with 36 RBIs and 37 runs.

Brett Fanning, Hall
Year: Senior
Position: Pitcher
Season highlights: The All-Tri-County Conference pick fanned an area-best 87 batters over his 47 1/3 innings of work on the mound, where he finished 7-2 with a 1.92 ERA. A dual threat, he helped his own cause with a .430 batting average and 26 runs scored and had nine doubles.

Kyle Jenkins, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Pitcher
Season highlights: The Cavalier ace had  an area-best 9-1 record this spring  and finished third amongst area pitchers with his 1.46 ERA and 63 strikeouts. The unanimous NIB 12 West All-Conference pick also hit .344 with 22 RBIs, five doubles and two home runs for regional champ L-P.

Curtiss Johnson, Marquette
Year: Senior
Position: Catcher
Season highlights: The first-team All-TCC  catcher led the area with a robust .618 batting average. Johnson’s eye-popping numbers didn’t stop there as he led the area with 54 runs scored and 43 RBIs, was second with 14 doubles and seven triples and also hit two home runs.

Cody Ballerini, Putnam County
Year: Senior
Position: Utility
Season highlights: Ballerini bashed the ball this spring for the Panthers with a .423 batting average, 31 RBIs, 25 runs scored, 10 doubles and two triples. The first team All-TCC pick also had a 7-4 record on the mound with a 1.98 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 60 innings to help lead PC to state.

SECOND TEAM
Jack Egan, Putnam County
Year: Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: Egan was a key component this spring for the Class 1A runner-up Panthers as he hit .415 with 13 RBI. The All-Tri County Conference honorable mention selection also packed some punch with his six triples, five doubles and a home run.

Tabor Griglione, Ottawa
Year: Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: The NIB 12 West all-conference player hit .386 for the conference-champion Pirates. Griglione was second on the team with 29 RBIs. He also scored 20 runs and had five doubles as he helped lead Ottawa to a 23-4 overall record and 14-1 in league play.

Bret Storm, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Outfielder
Season highlights: The All-NIB 12 West pick had a strong spring at the top of the L-P lineup as he led the team with 41 runs scored — third best in the area. The fast-moving center fielder was also among area leaders with three triples and 11 stolen bases while hitting .330 with 19 RBIs for the Cavs.

Adam Happ, La Salle-Peru
Year: Senior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: The first-team All-NIB 12 West pick had a strong farewell tour with the Cavs this spring as he hit .367 with 25 RBIs. Happ also added three doubles and five stolen bases as the shortstop helped lead the Cavaliers to their second straight regional championship.

Patrick Killelea, Marquette
Year: Junior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: Killelea hit .382 this spring for the Crusaders with 26 runs and 30 RBIs as well as 13 doubles and three triples. The second-team All-TCC pick also had a good year on the mound, where he finished 5-1 with a 2.68 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

Jake Schlosser, Henry
Year: Junior
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: The first-team All-Tri County Conference shortsop was a strong defender as he committed just three errors this season in the field for the Mallards. Schlosser proved equally adept with his bat as recorded a .429 batting average to go with 11 runs scored.

Evan Snyder, Maquette
Year: Freshman
Position: Infielder
Season highlights: Snyder had a breakout debut as he finished second in the area with 40 RBIs to go with a .424 average. The second-team All-TCC pick also posted a team best 6-1 record on the mound with a 2.13 ERA and 52 strikeouts, all among the area’s top 10.

Harold Fay, Putnam County
Year: Junior
Position: Pitcher
Season highlights: Fay put the Panthers on his back this postseason as he allowed just one run over 22 1/3 innings of  work to earn four wins and help lead PC to the Class 1A state title game. He finished the spring with 9-4 record and a 2.33 ERA over 57 innings with 53 strikeouts.

Damin Smith, St. Bede
Year: Senior
Position: Pitcher
Season highlights: The Academy’s ace compiled an 8-1 record this spring on the mound and pitched a gem in the finals of the Class 2A Marquette  Regional to give the Bruins the title. Smith finished with an ERA of 1.67 and recorded 39 strikeouts over his 50 1/3 innings of work.

Logan Bima, St. Bede
Year: Senior
Position: Catcher
Season highlights: Bima was a beast with his bat this spring, leading the regional-champion Bruins with 29 RBIs, six doubles and six triples. The senior catcher managed a robust pitching staff and carried a batting average of .333 this season as he helped the Bruins to a 19-3 record.

Kyle Wallbaum, Ottawa
Year: Senior
Position: Utility
Season highlights: The unanimous All-NIB 12 West pick as a pitcher recorded a 1.80 ERA on the hill as he finished a perfect 6-0. The third baseman also walloped the ball with a .357 batting average and 23 RBIs to go with 29 runs scored, nine doubles and three triples.
