Track and field: Area teams compete in Sterling

The La Salle-Peru, Princeton, Bureau Valley and Fieldcrest track and field teams competed Saturday in the Sterling First Chance Meet at the Westwood Complex in Sterling.

In the boys meet, L-P’s Damion Allen and Princeton’s Austen Stewart each won an event.

Allen raced around the track in 52.56 seconds to win the 400-meter dash.

Stewart cleared 6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump to claim the individual title. L-P’s Logan Zeman was second at 6-4.

Fieldcrest’s Dawson White placed second in the 60 in 9.17 seconds.

BV placed second in the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

In the girls meet, Fieldcrest’s Tessa Holland won the high jump by tying her school record of 5-5 and she broke her own school record in the long jump with a 16-3 to place second. She also placed third in the 400.

Princeton’s Phoenix Smallwood was the runner-up in the triple jump (34-11) and third in the long jump (15-11). Teammate Colbi Schertz placed second in the shot put with a throw of 33-2.

L-P was led by fifth-place finishes by Megan Krolak in the 800 and Abby Coutre in the 60 hurdles.

No team scores were kept.
