Prep of the Week: L-P's Jessica Temple

NT Sports Staff

Name: Jessica Temple

School: La Salle-Peru

Year: Senior

Sport: Bowling

Nicknames: Just Jess or Jesser

Favorite sports memory: Going to state last year. I was really surprised. I didn’t really think that I would go. That was my favorite moment.

What’s your favorite thing about winter?: I like to go sledding.

Other than the Illinois Valley Super Bowl, what is your favorite place to bowl?: Cherry Bowl in Rockford. I bowl there a lot, probably more than at the Super Bowl. I do a lot of leagues in Rockford.

What are your future plans?: I’m hoping to go to college and maybe bowl. I plan on going into the medical technology administration area.

What’s the most-played song on our iPod?: Anything Carrie Underwood related. I’m on a new country kick.

What’s the most-embarrassing song on your iPod?: “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher.

What guilty-pleasure TV show do you watch?: Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

What’s your favorite book?: Anything Nicholas Sparks. I just finished “Safe Haven.” I love everyone of his books.

Last week’s performance: Temple rolled a 1,252 series to place fourth at the United Township Sectional and earn an individual berth to the IHSA State Tournament, which begins today. She started with a 203 and had four of her six games better than 200.

Temple on her performance: I was a little leery going into the sectional. I wasn’t sure how I’d do. I bowled in Moline twice before to try to get comfortable with the lanes. I wanted to come out strong. I feel like if the first game isn’t decent, you have to play catch up. … I bowled decent. I wasn’t extremely thrilled, but I’m glad I’m going to state as a senior.

Coach Terry Pytel says: She came out pretty strong. In the afternoon, it was the same way. We usually have a little bit of a lull after lunch. She came out and bowled well. I don’t know what happened her sixth game (a 179). I don’t know if she was tired or started to get nervous. When it was over, she said, ‘I didn’t make it, did I?’ … She was just relieved (when she made it). You could see it in her face. It was good. Overall, I think she did very well. She kept her composure. She was around the pocket.
