Roundup: Hall girls beat Henry at TCC Tournament

The Hall girls basketball team held on Wednesday against Henry.

Playing in a consolation semifinal at the Tri-County Conference Tournament in Ottawa, the Lady Red Devils outscored Henry 10-4 in the third quarter and held on for a 33-27 victory.

The win advances No. 6 Hall to tonight’s 5 p.m. fifth-place game against No. 5 Midland.

In Wednesday’s win, Becca Herrmann scored a team-high 10 points, while Emma Cluskey scored a game-high 11 points for the Lady Mallards.

Midland advanced to the fifth-place game after it beat DePue 67-21 in the night’s first consolation semifinal.

Ottawa 2946, Mendota 2761
The Lady Pirates rolled to a non-conference victory over their former NCIC foes Wednesday in Mendota.

Natalie Conrad threw a 220 high game as part of a 554 high series for Ottawa.

At Mooseheart
Marquette 182-pounder John MacBean went 3-0 for the Crusaders in Wednesday’s road dual.

MacBean earned a pair of pin fall victories and a technical fall in the quadrangular meet.

Winning a pair of matches was 106-pounder Jakob Weiss  and 195-pounder Jibril Church.

Special Olympics
The Starved Rock Area Special Olympics played host to a District Winter Games competition Jan. 5 at the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton.

Ninety athletes from north and central Illinois participated in a variety of events.
Athletes also participated in an Alpine Ski competition Jan. 8 in Andalusia and a Speed Skating competition Jan. 5 in Franklin Park.

First-place Gold Medal winners advanced to the Illinois State Special Olympic Winter Games, which will be held Jan. 29-31 at the Chestnut Mount Lodge in Galena.

Local participants from Gateway Services in Princeton included Becky Nelson (bronze in Snowshoe 50M, gold in Snowshoe 100M), Seth Schultz (gold in Speed Skating), Jennifer Tornow (gold in Snowshoe 50M and fourth in Snowshoe 100M) and Nathan Warren (gold in both Snowshoe 200M and Snowshoe 400M).

Also advancing to state in Cross Country Skiing from Gateway is Melissa Anderson, Brandy Endsley and Theresa McLachlan.

Participating from Princeton High School was Alexandra Dabler (silver in both Snowshoe 50M and Snowshoe 100M) and Justin Smith (gold in both Snowshoe 50M and 100M).

Participating from Tracey’s Boxer Club in Walnut was Tracy Gibson (fourth in both Snowshoe 50M and Snowshoe 100M).
