The Fieldcrest football team lost its lead Friday.
It didn’t, however, lose the game.
After the Knights lost a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in Friday’s Heart of Illinois Conference showdown with Tri-Valley, Fieldcrest quarterback Drew Barth threw the game-winning 42-yard touchdown pass to receiver Billy Moline with 2:53 left in the contest to lift the Knights to a 21-14 victory in Downs.
It capped a wild finish.
Moline highlighted Fieldcrest’s first quarter with a 22-yard TD run and later caught a 24-yard TD pass from Barth to start the second half.
However, with Fieldcrest up 14-0 after three quarters, the Vikings rallied for two scores and tied the game with 3:57 to play before Fieldcrest pulled out the win.
Leo 28, Ottawa 26 The Pirates were unable to complete the comeback Friday in Ottawa.
After Ottawa took a 17-6 lead with 7:39 to play in the first half, Leo regrouped and took a five-point lead with 1:52 left in the third quarter.
A 38-yard Tristan Cunha field goal pulled the Pirates to 28-26 with 7:23 left in the game, but Ottawa was unable to take the lead. Rockford Christian Life 47, Marquette 20 The Crusaders fell behind early and never caught up as they fell in the Northeastern Athletic Conference showdown Friday in Ottawa.
Marquette trailed 20-12 at half but was outscored 20-0 in the third quarter as Rockford Christian Life put away the game.
It was Marquette’s first loss in the NAC since joining the conference in 2012. BOYS GOLF At Washburn Putnam County’s Mitch Aimone and Caleb Dzierzynski both shot a team-low round of 43 in a triangular Friday at Snag Creek Golf Course.
The Panthers shot a team score of 191 to finish behind Peoria Christian (175) but ahead of Lowpoint-Washburn (229). At McNabb Henry’s Jake Kennedy shot a medalist round of 42 as the Mallards posted a team score of 195 to best Roanoke-Benson (249) in Friday’s dual at Edgewood Park Golf Club.
Connor Smith added a 48.
MEN’S GOLF At Freeport IVCC finished sixth in the 11-team Highland 36 on Friday.
In the two-round, 36-hole event, the Eagles were paced by Baley Lehr, who shot a 74 and a 77, while Dane Lehr carded a 75 and an 86.
