The La Salle-Peru softball team won three games Saturday to claim the Freeport Lady Pretzel Invitational.
The Lady Cavaliers opened with a 4-0 victory over Normal U-High, then beat Freeport 5-4 before topping Oak Forest 4-3 to win the title.
In the first game, Shana Puetz allowed just two hits and struck out 16 batters to earn the win. Abby Turczyn went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Sam George smacked a solo home run.
Lauren Spelich went 4-for-4 and scored three runs in the second game, while Callie Schmidt went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Taylor Nauman earned the win.
Against Oak Forest, Turczyn had a double and two RBIs, while Nauman also doubled and drove in a run. Kristi Wallin was the winning pitcher for L-P (4-2).
Mendota and Princeton split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday as the Lady Trojans won Game 1 8-6 before the Tigresses responded with a 12-11 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Mary Wackerlin went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs for Mendota, while Mallory Phalen drove in three runs and Brooke Carroll went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases and three runs.
Taylor Browder tossed a complete game .
Madison Menzel took the loss for Princeton.
In the second game, the Tigresses scored 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Courtney Oeder went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, while Elizabeth Hendrix was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and two RBIs.
Holmbeck earned the win and Menzel earned the save for PHS.
Reiss Avery took the loss for MHS.
Fieldcrest 5, Marquette 3
Haley Ruestman smacked a home run Saturday to help the Lady Knights to a non-conference victory in Minonk.
Emma Fortner tripled for Fieldcrest, while Taylor Tjaden had a double. Lauren Tjaden earned the win.
Maggie Durdan and Madelyn Thompson each doubled for Marquette. Katherine Dyche took the loss.
The Earlville-Leland softball team routed Chicago Hope in a pair of non-conference games Saturday.
The Lady Red Raiders won the first game 22-0 and took the second game 15-0. Both were called after three innings.
Julie Musich was 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, a double, a walk, three runs and four RBIs in the first game. Kristina Morsovillo was the winning pitcher.
In the second game, Kayla Brue went 2-for-3 with a homer, three runs and three RBIs. Alyssa Ohme earned the win.
At La Salle
La Salle-Peru went 0-2 on Saturday in its first two home games as a varsity program.
The Lady Cavaliers lost 12-0 to Woodstock and 7-0 to Rock Island at L-P’s new sports complex.
Streator 7, Hall 0
Hall senior Brittany Gonzalez made 19 saves on Saturday as the Lady Red Devils lost in Streator.
At Spring Valley
Hall swept Serena in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday.
In the opener, Trevor Urbanski went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs as the Red Devils won 10-1. Pete Mautino allowed one run in six innings to earn the win.
A.J. Gaeta went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the second game to help Hall to a 4-2 victory. Austin Schmitt earned the win and Taggart Venegas picked up a save.
Mendota swept Princeton on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader, winning 2-1 and 6-4.
In the first game, Mendota’s Matt Dornink pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Jaron Robinson and Shane Kruse drove in runs.
Jake Reinhardt took the loss.
In the second game, Evan Schultz had a double and drove in three runs for MHS. Spencer Evans earned the win and Garet Zinke earned the save.
Zach Friel took the loss.
Marquette 12, Fieldcrest 2, 5 innings
Trystin Raikes had a home run, two doubles, two runs and an RBI on Saturday to lead the Crusaders to a non-conference win in Wenona.
C.J. Norman went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run for Marquette. Patrick Killelea earned the win.
Ryan Barth went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Fieldcrest. He also took the loss.
At Rock Island
Ottawa No. 2 singles player Luke Winchester went 3-0 on Saturday to win the Rock Island Invite.
Alec Lindemann went 1-2 to place fifth at No. 1 singles.
JUNIOR COLLEGE SOFTBALL
IVCC split an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Saturday, losing the first game 4-2 before bouncing back for a 6-3 victory in the second game.
In the opener, La Salle-Peru graduate T.J. Chapman went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Liz Whitaker was the losing pitcher.
In the second game, Chapman drove in a pair of runs, while fellow L-P alumna Micky Fassino was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI.
Fieldcrest graduate Tiffany Lindsay allowed no earned runs in a complete game victory.

Lake County 6, IVCC 3
The Eagles took two singles matches Sunday as they lost in Grayslake.
La Salle-Peru graduates Trent Lipka and Nate Adcock won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, while Race Melvin won at No. 6.
Dupage 5, IVCC 4
The Eagles won three singles matches and a doubles match, but it wasn’t enough in a loss Saturday in Ottawa.
