Community Sports Notes: L-P Youth Football having registration

The La Salle-Peru Youth Football League is having three registration dates at the Illinois Valley YMCA.

Registration is from 6-8 p.m. March 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 27 and 6-8 p.m. April 1.

The league is open to all children who will be in grades 2-8 during the 2014-15 school year who live within the La Salle-Peru Township High School district.

Spring Valley softball looking for more 13-14 players
Spring Valley softball needs more 13- and 14-year-old girls to form a second team. The league has 15 girls but would like to form a second team so the girls will have more playing time.

Any girl who is 13 or 14 and lives in Spring Valley, Ladd, Cherry, Dalzell, Arlington, LaMoille or DePue is welcome.

St. Bede holding cheerleading tryouts, workshops
The St. Bede cheerleading team is holding tryouts at 6 p.m. April 6 in the third floor chapel at the Academy.

There will be workshops from 7-9 p.m. April 4 and April 5.

4-H shooting sports program  looking for volunteers
The Marshall-Putnam 4-H Shooting Sports program is looking for volunteers to participate in training youth ages 8-18 in archery, air and ..22 caliber rifle and shotgun shooting along with safe and responsible use of firearms and wildlife management and conservation ethics.

There is an informational meeting from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 29 at the University of Illinois Extension Office located at 509 Front St., Suite 4 in Henry.

The training is May 2-4 at the 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello.

Background checks need to be completed by March 31 in order to attend the May training.
