Plackett signs with Lincoln

La Salle-Peru senior Hanna Plackett did something Wednesday that no one else has ever done at her school.

She signed a Letter of Intent to play college golf, becoming the first Lady Cavalier golfer to do so.

“This is our first experience with it and it’s just outstanding,” L-P coach Randy Gunia said. “Hanna is definitely breaking a barrier here, which is very nice for the program and for her own commitment not only to golf but to furthering her education.”

Plackett signed Wednesday to play for Lincoln College, an NJCAA Division II school located in Lincoln.

“It’s kind of a big thing for me,” said Plackett, who was joined at the signing by family, friends, teammates and coaches. “I was really wanting to play golf in college, and now that it’s actually happening, I’m taking it in and enjoying it.”

Plackett also considered Benedictine College, where she still hopes to attend and play golf after her two-year stint at Lincoln.

“It’s small and I like that there are tutors for every subject if you need help,” Plackett said about why she liked Lincoln. “I like the small classes and being able to have one-on-one with teachers if you need it.

“The girls (on the golf team) are really nice and the coach is really nice and willing to help. I’m looking forward to it.”

As a senior, Plackett averaged a 56.5.

“I try to look for kids who are interested in playing golf and she seemed very dedicated to the game and one who could really help Lincoln College out,” Lincoln coach Carol Wilson said. “I think Hanna has upside. She has the dedication and work ethic to be a very good college golfer.

“We’re looking forward to having Hanna play for Lincoln College.”
