College Check-Up: Schwab has big night for William Penn

Jackie Pokryfke
NT Correspondent

To say Alec Schwab turned in a dominant performance on the basketball court over the weekend would be a bit of an understatement.

The William Penn University junior from St. Bede and IVCC scored 43 points and had six rebounds and a steal in a 100-81 win over Clarke College on Saturday.

His point total was the fourth-best in William Penn history. He was 13-for-28 from the field — including 9-for-20 from 3-point range, one shy of the school record — and was 8-for-9 from the free throw line. He made six of his first eight 3-pointers in the win.

For his effort, he was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. Schwab is averaging 13.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game with 29 assists, 20 steals and three blocks.

Also on the basketball court, Judson University’s Emily Ragsdale (Jr., Ottawa) has been on a roll. She registered her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 76-72 overtime loss to Indiana University-South Bend on Feb. 1.

She then followed that up with another double-double — the 10th of her career — with 12 points and 16 rebounds in a 75-71 loss to Robert Morris on Feb. 5. She also finished with four blocks, which put her third all-time at Judson in that category.

Ragsdale is averaging 6.5 points and 6 rebounds per game with 35 assists, a team-high 32 blocks and 20 steals.
