Roundup: PC-Hall wrestling goes 3-0

Putnam County-Hall wrestlers Dominic Elliott (120 pounds), R.J. Copeland (145), Cole Elliott (160) and James Hall (182) all went undefeated Monday night as the Panthers went 3-0 in a quadrangular at Mendota.

PC-Hall defeated Midland (39-21), Marquette (59-12) and Mendota (39-29).
Cole Elliott earned pins against Midland and Mendota, while James Hall won by technical fall against Marquette.

Marquette’s points came via a Jon McBean pin at heavyweight and a forfeit, while Mendota received a pin by Jake Spainier at 170 and decisions by T.J. Christman (8-1 at 138) and Jaron Robinson (12-10 in overtime at 152).

Ottawa 64, Streator 55
John Carroll scored a game-high 18 points Monday as the Pirates held off rival Streator in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division game in Streator.

Isaac Gassman added 14 points for the Pirates (17-1, 6-0 NIB 12 West).

At Somonauk
Nolan Baumbach poured in a game-high 34 points Monday to lead No. 8-seeded Leland-Earlville to a 55-53 victory over No. 9 Hiawatha in a Little Ten Conference Tournament first-round game in Somonauk.

Colin Bomstad added 11 points for the Panthers (6-15), who have won three games in a row. L-E advances to face No. 1 Indian Creek at 6:30 tonight.

In other tournament action, No. 7 LaMoille-Ohio lost 70-34 to No. 2 Newark in a quarterfinal.

Josh Gross and Preston Powers each scored 11 points for the Lions (4-15), who trailed 25-6 after the first quarter.

L-O will face No. 6 Hinckley-Big Rock at 7 p.m. Thursday in a consolation semifinal.

Marquette 40, Hall 33
Sydney Stalker scored a game-high 12 points Monday to lead the Lady Crusaders to a non-conference victory in Spring Valley.

Eleanor McCallum added 10 points for Marquette (13-12), which trailed 12-6 after the first quarter but led 21-17 at halftime.

Hunter Galassi had 10 points to pace the Lady Red Devils (7-15).

Fieldcrest 62, Midland 30
Haley Ruestman and Tessa Holland combined to outscore Midland on Monday as the Lady Knights earned a non-conference victory in Varna.

Ruestman scored 16 points, while Holland had 15 points, 11 rebounds and two assists for Fieldcrest (16-7).

Kewanee 59, St. Bede 47
The Lady Bruins had four players score nine or more points, but it wasn’t enough as they lost a Three Rivers Conference South Division game in Kewanee.

Lexie Miranda scored a team-high 11 points, Hanna Bima had 10 points, and Laura Sickley and Raley Mauck each added nine points.

St. Bede (11-16, 5-5 TRC South) trailed 25-20 at halftime before being outscored 20-10 in the third quarter.

Rockridge 51, Princeton 23
Zoe Mead scored 12 points as the Tigresses lost a Three Rivers Conference South Division game Monday on Senior Night in Princeton.

Newman 49, Bureau Valley 34
Nicole Bornsheuer scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds Monday as the Storm dropped a Three Rivers Conference North Division game in Manlius.

BV (8-16, 1-11 TRC North) trailed 23-10 after the first quarter.

At Dixon
Ciara Koepke rolled a 1,164 series Monday to help Ottawa to a fourth-place finish at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournament.

The Lady Pirates finished with 6,091 pins.
